“I will do all I can to make Des Moines a city that creates opportunities for every resident in every neighborhood. I am inspired by the many citizens and groups, including the City Council, who have worked to ensure Ward 1 was represented at the City Hall. We are a lucky community to have such strong citizen participation. I want to serve them; and I know my experience can help us get started on day one,” says Chris Coleman.
"My life story can be told in the neighborhoods of Ward One. I was fortunate to serve on the city council at
a time when this city began to really take shape, and I am more excited to lead our community now than I ever have been."
My priorities for Ward 1:
1. Security: Support for police and fire responders as they address ever increasingly demanding situations
2. Community: Invest in neighborhoods, especially our parks and places where we celebrate family, culture, and diversity
3. Responsibility: Keep taxes low while funding our priorities
4. Civility: Unite community leaders to tackle crime, access to mental health services, and food insecurity
Coleman, a Beaverdale resident, is the President of the Iowa Better Business Bureau. The first half of his career was at the United Way. He was a founding member of the Beaverdale Neighborhood Association and a past officer. Chris is a tested and accomplished community leader; he is the only person to be elected to lead four critical regional government groups: Metro Planning Organization, Catch Des Moines, Metro Waste Authority, and the Homeless Coordinating Council. Chris is a proud father of five children, each of whom is an engaged community citizen. Chris is active in his church and neighborhood; but he is a poor pickleball player—you can see for yourself on Tuesdays at Waveland where he plays in the City’s Beginner League.
1. Bring civility and respect to City Hall
2. Keep our neighborhoods safe
3. Be a watchdog for our tax dollars
4. Address the needs of our most vulnerable citizens
5. Invest in neighborhoods and protect our parks
I am uniquely equipped to step in and make an immediate impact. I have spent most of my career advocating for Des Moines, building relationships with city leaders, and creating programs that propel us for a successful future. I hope I can count on your support.
There are a few easy ways to get involved:
1. Encourage your friends and family in Ward 1 to support my campaign
2. Request a yard sign on your property
3. Follow me on social media to keep up on campaign happenings
